Max Shop Cart Discounts

Discounts are setup in the Discount Manager. You get to the Discount Manager by using the Manage Discounts buttons on the main Control Panel.

How do we handle discounts in Max Shop Cart?

First of all, we use discount codes. We define one (or a list of) discounts codes. We do this by using the Add a Discount Code button in the Discount Manager. Each discount code has properties associated with it. These are:  Type of Discount (either a percentage of the total amount of the order, or an amount that is deducted from the total.)

If we select the Type of Discount as Percentage, then we fill in the Percentage field with a number like 10 or 20.  Meaning 10% or 20%.

If we select the Type of Discount as Amount, then we fill in the Amount field with an amount that will be deducted from the total of the order. (For example, a discount of $20 from the order total.)

Then we select the dates during which the discount is in effect. When the offer expires, customers may enter the discount code, but it will not be applied to the total order. In fact, an error message will be shown.

Next comes Minimum Amount of Purchase.  This is the minimum amount of the order total before the discount applies.

In the example above, we would probably say the discount will be $20 from the order total, but only if the total order is (say) $200. So we would fill in this Minimum Amount of Purchase field as 200.

Then we press the Add Discount button and go back to the Discount Control Panel where we see the discount code listed. If you need to edit the discount fields again, you can use the Modify link.  (Or you can delete the discounts entirely, when you no longer need them.)

Once you have setup the discounts (as many as you want,) you can advertise to your customers and let them know what the discount codes are.

When the customers Check Out on the shopping cart, they will see a field that looks like this:

If you have a discount code, enter it here:

After the discount code is entered, it is checked to see if it is a valid discount code. And that the date has not expired. And that the order has reached the minimum amount. If all the criteria are met, the discount is applied. And the resultant screen shows the order with the discount applied.

Important: they can enter another discount code at that point, but it will replace the previous one they just entered.  Only one discount can be applied to an order.

After the order totals are shown, they can then proceed to pay, as usual...

What happens when you want to know how many customers used your discount codes? Good question.  That will be covered on the Order History page, as there will be a button on the Order History page labeled Tally Discounts, where you can view a report about your sales with discounts.

Now, let's look at the Order History...
