Installing the Max Events System

If you have had someone else install the system, and configure it for you, and all you want to do is start adding events to your calendar page, then you can skip right to Starting the Max Events System.

To install the Max Eventss system, you need to FTP all the files to a folder on your website. Typically, the folder is called ‘maxevents’ but you can call it whatever you want.

The only changes you need to make to any file (before FTP’ing) is the one called config.php But the changes are simple. They are the host name, username and password of the MySQL server you are using. You also want to enter the name of the database you already have setup. This is fairly standard. Then start the system by going to the install page at:

http://www.mydomain.com/maxevents/install.php

This creates all the needed tables, fills in the default configuration, and then sends you to the Configuration pages – after you enter the initial Userid of ‘admin’ and password of ‘admin’ It is essential that you change those passcodes as soon as you get to the Configure page…..

To modify the Configuration after the install is done, you would go to:

http://www.yourwebsite.com/maxevents/start.php

When you arrive at the page, you will see a website form that asks for a Userid and a Password. It is necessary to enter the Userid and a Password in order to continue. These are essential because only you should have the ability to add or edit the configuration. If no password was required, anyone could come here and wreak havoc on your events configuration.

You will also find this statement:

"Important Note: It is essential that you do NOT use the BACK button on your browser in the following pages. If you do, you will probably see a message that says "Warning: Page has Expired." This will not happen as long as you use the buttons provided. Thus, there's really no need to use the BACK button. "

Hopefully, that is self-explanatory. All the buttons you need are included on the webpages. Please do NOT use the BACK (or FORWARD) buttons on your browser. This caveat is necessary because the system can lose data unless you use the navigation buttons provided on the Max Events pages.

(Technical note: Actually, it won’t lose data, but it can appear that way because of warning messages that may appear if you use the BACK button on your browser.)

Let's look at Configuration....
