Starting Max Events

Starting the Max Events System

To begin the program, we'll go to the web address of the Max Events system on your website. This will almost always be in the form of:

http://www.mydomain.com/maxevents/index.php

You'll see an invitation to sign-up to use the system.  Or login, if you've already signed-up. The sign-up is straight-foward. You enter First Name, Last Name, Company (optional) and Email Address. Then choose a username and password. Note that before clicking the Submit New Registration button, the user is informed about your Terms and Conditions and your Privacy Policy.  A standard form is provided for both of these, but is highly recommended that you change BOTH of these to reflect your own policies.

After entering your userid and password, you come to the "Login Profile" of the Max Events system. This is the main operating page. Here you can change the profile.  But the most significant part of the page is the Manage My Events button.

Managing Events

The first time you come here, you will have no events added yet. So let's look at the rest of the elements of this page later.  For now, just hit the Add New Event button.

Entering Events

When you do, you’ll see a page that asks for:

  • Date of Event
  • Event Title
  • City
  • State
  • Country
  • Event Location
  • URL link to more information
  • Event Description

Let’s go over these.

Date of Event is the date of your event using pull-down menus for accuracies sake. Note that the last year in the list is 2012, which should be adequate for a while.

Event Title is the title of your event.

City, State
and Country are entered next, followed by event location. This Event Location field is used to specify exactly where the event is to be held. Examples: Jorgensen Auditorium, Phil's Restaurant, Ridgecrest Conference Center.

URL link to more information is a web address where more information is available. It is made into a clickable link when displayed on the Events Calendar.

And finally Event Description where you enter text about the event.

And that’s it. Now just hit the Add Event to Calendar button.  You'll see a page where you get a chance to review what you've entered and change it, if necessary. If it looks good, you press the button that reads Yes, This Is Correct.

And next you see a screen where you can upload a graphic image to be associated with the event. First, you locate the graphic on your computer using the Browse button. And when that is done, you use the Upload button to upload the image to the Events Calendar listing.  Following ths step, the event gets added to the database of events on your website. You can then return to the Events Manager.

List of Events You've Added

And what do you see? You see your new event in the list of events. Only one is there, if this is the first event you’ve entered, but the list will expand as you add more events.

Let’s look at this list:

It shows you the Event Title and Event Date. When you click on the word Preview on the same line as the Event Title, it shows you all the information about that event, just as it would appear on the Events Calendar. When you click on the word Modify on the same line as the Event Title, it takes you to a screen that looks just like the Add Events screen. Here’s where you can make changes to the event, if you need to. You can also choose to Delete the event completely, if you wish. You would put a check mark in the Delete column, and then click the Delete Checked Events button at the bottom of the list. (It’s unlikely that you’ll want to do this, very often.)

Note that word Event Title at the very top of the list in the colored row can be clicked on. If you do so, it will show you the list sorted by title. The same is true of the words Event Date. You can sort the list by date.

Now suppose you have lots of events. Say you have 80 events. Or even more. You probably don’t want the whole list on one page. So the list is "page-inated." This means you only see a certain number at one time, say 30. You can hit the Next and Back words, in order to see more of the list. This number is configurable. You can set it to be whatever you like.

Now, let’s look at the Calendar of Events operation….
